What should be considered for the barrier-free disabled toilet?
Barrier-free sanitary facilities must be designed in such a way that they can be used by people with wheelchairs and walkers as well as visually impaired people. This is especially true for the toilet area. How to design this barrier-free and handicapped accessible, you can find out here.
Accessible toilets require a minimum of movement area around them: a movement area of about 90 cm should be maintained to the left and right of the WC. This gives the wheelchair users the opportunity to easily implement and park the wheelchair / walker next to the toilet. Before the toilet should be a movement area of 150 cm for the approach and the wheelchair turning. As a result, not only enough space for moving or sitting down is created. In addition, dangerous tripping hazards near the toilet are switched off.
Accessible WCs must be adjustable, also in height: For both wheelchair users and senior users, sitting down as well as getting up from the toilet is a major obstacle. In order to simplify both, the height of the toilet should be adapted to the size of the user. Ideally, you should therefore fall back on height-adjustable toilets, which can be adjusted in height after installation and adapted to the respective user. Although non-height-adjustable toilets are less flexible, they can be mounted to the desired height with the accessible WC frame. No matter which solution you choose, with a size-matched toilet, you can always keep your feet in contact with your feet, which makes sitting and standing up noticeably easier. A generous foreigner also supports sitting down and getting up, especially for wheelchair users. A toilet with a depth of 70 cm should be installed. This depth of projection corresponds to the area that a wheelchair user needs in order to be able to approach the toilet in such a way that the seats of the wheelchair and those of the toilet are parallel to each other.
Folding support handles and grab handles provide the necessary support for the disabled toilet: Even a toilet mounted to the appropriate height does not guarantee successful sitting down and getting up. A great help are folding support handles. These are to be mounted on each side of the WC. The distance between the handles is a dimension of 65 cm to 70 cm listed, while the top edge of the support handles should be 28 cm above the seat height. At the same time, they should protrude 15 cm above the front edge of the WC. For the installation of support flap handles, there are special pre-wall installation systems, which allow a height adjustment in the assembled state and a subsequent attachment.
Shower toilets take over the cleaning after the toilet: often elderly or physically disabled persons are not able to clean themselves after the toilet. Nevertheless, in order to be able to master this intimate act without outside help, shower toilets are recommended. These clean with warm water, while a hot air dryer then dries everything. Most shower toilets also come with additional features such as a night orientation light, automatic odor extraction and a heated toilet seat with soft close.
Wall-hung toilets make bathroom cleaning easier: one aspect of accessible sanitary facilities that should not be forgotten is floor cleaning. Wall-hung toilets provide a great remedy, so you can easily wipe under the toilet.
